Situated in western Canada, the province of Alberta lies directly to the east of British Columbia, and west of Saskatchewan. To the north of Alberta lies the Northwest Territories, and directly to the south is the American state of Montana. Alberta is just over 660,000 square kilometers, in size, and has a population of over 3.5 million people. Much like other Canadian provinces and territories, Alberta is a fairly even mix of ethnicities, with major ethnic groups represented including: English, German, Scottish, Irish, and French. There are many sight-seeing opportunities in Alberta, and most center on the outdoors. Camping, hiking and skiing are the most popular visitor activities for the province. Between Jasper National Park, Banff National Park, and the Rocky Mountains, more than three million visitors come to the area annually. In addition, more than a third of the fourteen Canadian sites noted by UNESCO World Heritage are located in Alberta. These include: Canadian Rocky Mountains, Dinosaur Provincial Park, Head-Smashed-in-Buffalo-Jump, Wood Buffalo National Park, and Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park.
