Business Pages New Brunswick

New Brunswick is one of Canada’s three Maritime provinces and is the federation’s only constitutionally bi-lingual member, with both French and English speakers (English being predominant). The population is estimated to be about 750,000. The capital is Fredericton, while the largest city is St. Johns. GDP for the province is C$25.221 billion, with per capita income of C$33,664. The first known European explorer of the area was Jacques Cartier who first visited in 1534 under the French flag. It came under French rule, where it remained until the Seven Years’ War (1756-1763), when the British took control of it. New Brunswick formally entered the Canadian Confederation in 1867. New Brunswick’s climate, although technically maritime, is more continental in reality. Its inland areas are more sheltered and its pattern of settlement relied more on internal waterways than on the sea. Its most noteworthy natural attraction is the Bay of Fundy, which records the highest tides in the world. New Brunswick has a surface area of 72,908 km² (28,150 sq mi), of which 71,450 km² (27,590 sq mi) is land mass.
